I love capes! Blythe's is a wonderfully long cape with a short collar and embroidered yoke detail. The cape comes up slightly in the front so she doesn't have to worry about tripping on the hemline.
Here Blythe wears a very simple day gown of three parts. The silk blouse has full length sleeves and buttoned cuffs; the bodice has a deep V-neck to display the collar of the blouse and ends in a point below the natural waist. The skirt falls in pleats to the front and smoothly along the sides. She wears serviceable leather shoes.
Please welcome Blythe, the newest doll at the Closet! She was originally meant to be a Jane Eyre doll but I wasn't satisfied with her, she didn't quite capture Jane's character. So, months later, I started sketching outfits based off of her 1850's style undergarments but with absolutely no historical relevance.
This is a smart little ensemble for walking. The skirt drops to mid-calf length to keep dust and mud off of it, ending in an eye-catching tulip-petal hemline. The bodice is buttoned, with an inverted V-embroidered detail, a high neck and 3/4 length sleeves are hidden under the short cape which is fastened at the neck and keeps the walker warm; it has pleats beginning at the shoulder on either side. Crochet mitts keep the hands and wrists warm and sturdy leather boots can be protected by gaiters if the walker chooses.
