Wow, it's been a long time since Ella made an appearance! This is probably due to the fact that I need to draw the rest of her costumes... This is the dress she wears to the first ball, the mask has not been designed yet (neither have the other two ballgowns and the dress for her father and Mum Olga's wedding. I have work to do!)
This gown is heavily based on medieval fashions with the long sleeves of the over dress and the belted low waist. An embroidered trim edges both the over and the under gown.
I know I've been threatening you with Alisaid an her story, but the longer I look at the doll I've drawn for her, the less I like it. I have a feeling her whole wardrobe will need an overhaul soon. This is a sketch of Alisaid I made many months ago in the margins of a notebook (I use the term margin quite loosely).
Jana, the little bit sideways doll
This doll is an experiment from start to finish. The pose came from wondering how difficult it would be to draw the back of outfits and wanting to stretch my facial drawing talents with something harder than a straight-forward or 3/4 angle. It's also an experiment because instead of using a dip pen and ink I tried out Pentel's Hybrid Technica pens. I found them to be convenient, but they didn't give the same flow that a dip pen gives. And the final experiment, yes, the color. What can I say? I was bored and had a box of colored pencils.
Jana will not be featured often, she's pretty shy except for at holiday times. During those she loves to get out and socialize. Watch for Jana to model some fabulous holiday wear this season!
