Here's your weekly update of the adventures of Edwina, MacArthur, and Percival! When I originally began drawing this Edwina was based off of me (except I did not own a cat or a fish, but I do love tea). The outfits were based on clothes I actually own. Because of this, her outfits are rather boring (as are mine).
Because only posting a comic feels like cheating for a paper doll blog, here is Lissette in a beautiful croquet costume. I love all the fancy bodices and jackets from this era. I wish we still had the same sort of formality in modern clothing (of course, I say this while lounging comfortably in jeans and a t-shirt) but it looks so charming and elegant! Especially for croquet, can you imagine a handful of young men and women, in suits and dresses playing a cheerful and competetive game of whacking the ball through the arch? Such a beautiful picture!
To show off more costumes from this lovely era of fashion, I've uploaded some of the images I'm using to base Lissette's costumes off of. There are so many beautiful paintings, photos, and fasion plates from this era (she's set in 1880).
I had promised full-color sets of Leslie and Silvia, but upon uploading them to GoogleDoc, the colors went wacky... I shall try to save them in a format which will be internet safe.
And now, as I post this next section, you'll be wondering "you're starting another new paper doll that's not on the list? When do the March sisters etc. come into being?!?". I have this horrible habit of being inspired with ideas that are so far with my future plans that they would never mesh together. So... here comes a girl set in the 1600's... whose life gets tangled up with pirates... I made these sketches while on the plane flight back from Russia. There's no concrete plans yet, but the
Here is page two in Edwina's silly little story.
In other news, Winifred's book has been put up so you can print all her outfits in one collective set. You can check it out on her pages or click here.
My current goal is to get the PDF's of everyone up and running. I'm getting ready to upload full-color pdf's for Leslie and Silvia. Hopefully they won't use all your printer ink! lol. I've hit an artistic slump so I'm trying to do useful things that don't require drawing, because right now my sketches end up looking pretty bad... give it a couple of days, I'll find inspiration! I've started researching persian costumes and there will definately be plenty of artistic liscensing happening because there are so few references to ancient persian outfits.
