Happy weekend! It's amazing how a work week that is one day shorter than the norm (thanks to a three day weekend) still feels so long. But it's the weekend now and I'm looking forward to time spent outside and hopefully some spent in my basement sketching...
Today I chose to show you some of the sketches that I've done while trying to pinpoint Jitka's style & wardrobe needs. I'm in the process of drafting a story for her (I'm very good at beginning a tale, and very poor at ending it), sketching out parts of scenes helps me focus on the mood/emotions of the characters. It also helps to stretch my drawing abilities.
Someday soon (translation: in several months to several years) I hope to post her finished story!
Here is Jitka near the end of her story ( someday I will actually finish it and share it with you!). She has survived a great battle, and managed to become a heroine, but all she wants now is to return home. She wears a long sleeved blouse, embroidered wool tunic covered by a leather tunic laced up the front. Leather gauntlets protect her forearms, gaiters are wrapped around her calves and a cape to complete the outfit.
This was such a difficult dress to draw. It has a randomly asymmetrical hemline which would not compute in my brain, and there are very few images where you can see the hemline (usually it's a blur because of motion.) But here is my best try. I do like River's belt and her boots.
